4:08 pm
because it's the constellation of things that you mentioned and more. it's not just this one super storm although this storm was remarkable because it brought together three distinct complexes of atmosphere disturbance into one big horror show as we've seen. when you look at sea surface temperatures and how they have ricin. this is quite important tomorrow, hurricanes are the greatest way the planet earth has of moving heat energy from one hemisphere to the other. this is the big energy transfer that the earth does. when you add a lot of energy to the environment with fossil fuel burnage and all the other ways that we're throwing off kilter that energy balance it makes sense that there would be a corresponding rice in hurricanes. >> cenk: i love that explanation. it's not just random. the climate deniers, i don't know, it's random.
4:09 pm
it's not random. it's based on the events that mark explained. kara, it seems we have a combination of two or three storms here producing the super storm. is that also something that might be related to climate change? >> it's funny that you mention that and call it a super storm a.p. called it a franken storm and cnn banned the use of the term saying that that word frankenstorm which we know because it's multiple storms coming together, they said it kind of implied this was a man made disaster and wanted to be careful about attribution. that's a point we are not discussing is attribution is very, very difficult when it comes to an individual storm to say oh this is caused by climate change. it's like connecting a to z
4:10 pm
because there are so many variables in between. what we do know is that the general atmosphere is changing the likelihood of storms like this to occur. it is more probable that hurricane sandy would happen now in a warmer climate than it would otherwise. with these kind of arctic blasts coming down, keeping it onshore longer causing the terrible snow sleet hail, that destructive part of the tropical storm turning into a land mass kind of arctic storm. >> there's a reason for that. i think that the media's been intimidated. they say if you mention climate change in relationship to these storms or call it a franken storm, implying that it's man made you're showing political bias. the republicans say it's not. mark, it's a fascinating thing. as a meteorologist on a micro level. the t.v. stations pay you a lot of money to trust you get the weather right. if you tell them on a macro level, here's what i'm telling you about our climate they say we don't trust you because the
